Access Group Propagation Reference

Configuration in Accolade is managed through a security layer which controls what Process Designers can view and edit within the system. When changes are made to the access of one element, Configuration Access Groups on any elements linked to it may be updated in order to maintain the accessibility of the configuration within the same access group hierarchy. Propagation pushed the access groups from a parent element to a child element, only if the child elements become invalid under the changed configuration.

Access groups propagate down from parent to child. For example, a change in the access groups of a class can affect the model, as well as the layouts and metric within that model configuration.

One Parent to Multiple Children

Elements that have a parent-child relationship where each child must have exactly one parent. Propagation will follow these rules:

  1. The child is only updated if the child configuration access group becomes invalid. This includes adding, removing, or changing configuration access groups on the parent element that push to the child element.
  2. On the child element, only valid access groups of the parents are visible.
  3. Once an association is created between parent and child elements, configuration access groups changes must be made from the parent element. To change the configuration access group of the child element it must be updated on the parent and propagated down or disassociated from the parent element.
  4. When propagating access groups, the Process Designer can only make changes within their edit permissions. Other access groups assigned to the component will not be affected.
  5. Access groups cannot be deleted if they are in use by components.
